#WATCH & #SHARE if you feel Inspired ~ The Angry Eye: with Jane Elliott – A dynamic and provocative documentary film, showcasing Jane Elliott’s world famous Blue-eyed/Brown-eyed exercise in discrimination. During the exercise participants from various backgrounds experience the same kind of racist treatment African Americans and other minority groups have been receiving for years. “The Angry Eye” provides stiff medicine on the psychological assumptions propagated by racist/discriminatory attitudes and behavior.
This is essentially a video recording (shot at Bard College) of Jane Elliott’s group exercise. “The Angry Eye” is a very poignant, blunt look at racism & discrimination in America. This exercise represents a small simulation of what black people have felt for generations, Elliott contends, and with an intensely raw method of execution, she drills her point home.
People in this workshop have the choice to leave and ignore inequalities, but people of color and other groups deemed minorities continue to experience and fight against racism & discrimination every day .
Per Jane Elliott she has no intention of retiring until prejudice and discrimination are eradicated from our society. “Does that mean I have a job for life?” she sighs. “I think it does.” Elliott takes no joy in such job security. The sensitizing exercise, in which participants are labeled inferior or superior based on the color of their eyes, began in a third-grade classroom in all-white, all-Christian Riceville, Iowa, immediately after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Taking pigmentation – in this case, eye color – as an arbitrary dividing line, she builds a microcosm of contemporary American society. With startling force and emotional intensity, Elliott demonstrates the effects of racial prejudice, compelling her more privileged participants to live in another world for the longest two and a half hours of their lives. Those who have been through this exercise have said it is an emotionally significant and life-changing experience. This ground breaking exercise is the pinnacle of all other diversity programming in the country today.
